| Coming from TFH we are use to portraying German units and have much gear to do it justice.
Is there anyone else in the group looking to do some German? We portray Fallschirmjager, 1st SS panzer grenadier & 1st SS panzer crew.
Thoughts????
Could it be used in a display with US or Brit?

| We have a spare FJ tunic with Afrika Corps cuff title on, fj trousers, ankle boots and gaiters and numerous weapons and webbing and helmet if people want to borrow initially. | |

| I've always wanted to portray German but like the others have said, it would have to be in the new year before I start buying any of the kit.
FJ, SS or Whermacht | |

| I will put a kit list together for Fj or if any of you wanted ss, when you are all ready to order in the new year it will be better to do it at the same time because we will get a group discount from Richard underwood.

| All.
Interesting to read the posts and replies to this one! Of course it's great that there are those in the group interested in portraying our formidable foes - not sure about the SS part though....? This may not sit nicely with some people. Regular Whermacht and Falshirmjager are good of course, but not sure how AFLHA should feel about portraying SS Units? I for one am happy sticking with U.S and supporting other scenarios - I do not welcome the thought of stumping out a load of extra dosh for another set of equipment, especially German which can be very expensive.
Thoughts on this welcome as always.

| I'd be more than happy doing Wehrmacht but am not keen on SS.
Any ideas in regards to how much it would cost to do Wehrmacht? (very general question, I know) | |

| Hi, I hear what's being said and I agree that having other sub units, for those who wish to and have an interest in that unit is a good thing, as long as it doesn't distract from the main impression.
If we only ever done one unit, we'd all be bored after a very short period.
However, portraying an SS unit may push the limits of Allied Forces ethics. It's not about rewriting history or being PC, but its not what Allied Forces is about.
If those individuals have or wish to buy or collect SS militaria, then that is their choice.

| As much I don't see a problem with portraying SS, I don't think this is topic for discussion on a public forum. | |

| the point of being able to introduce Axis units to a display is simply to do justice to the impression given to the public.
example...... 3rd armoured at La Gleize can easily be portrayed by the group but ONLY if SS units were also portrayed. That is written in history and not by my personal political point of view.
We are merely trying to put a different and interesting insight to the history for the public. After all it is what happened.
Portraying SS does NOT mean you were necessarily a guard at a concentration camp, but as you are all aware with your extensive knowledge know that most were merely soldiers.
I do understand however that many people cannot get around the title "SS", and if it is decided early enough to not pursue this then we would look at bringing other ideas to the group.
We are very strong in the Fallschirmjager impression and may be able to bring more to the table there.
Thoughts?

| I fully agree with your view,as much as there is the stigma of the SS,you are right, the greater proportion were merely elite soldiers not all fanatics. No one can condone what went before us in history, but the world can't live a lie & say things didn't happen. I'm not in favour of people goose stepping around as individuals as SS but to portray them on a display is something I'm fine with. Panzer grenadier,fj or DAK we can I'm sure work with. Thanks for the input you are bringing to Aflha......or is it AlliedAxisforceslha!!

| Some interesting points being discussed. My original reaction to this was yes, but only FJ. I like the look!
However as stated, to accurately portay some units in certain battles the SS must be spoken about. As already said, this is fact! This is history! This is what we do! SO. My thoughts on this are currently this.
Our hobby is about a few things to different people, it does different things for different members of the group but i would bet on the fact that most of us enjoy "educating" the public as to what we are portraying at any one time during an event. As i said "its what we do"
So with that in mind how about this? If in the future a dual impression is warranted for a display ( granted not all display would warrant it) then we have a commentator/educator explaining and "educating" the public as to who each unit are any what battle they are portraying, also explaining the unit history of each unit. That in some small part we are not only justifying why we have an SS unit displaying with us but also begining somebodies education as to who they were. And not just look at what we do as a "jolly old time fighting the boch before we stop for lunch in the pub" but it is living history with a high degree of accuracy.
I have always found displays that actually educate the public about what they are looking at with somebody engaging with the public explaing kit, weapons, uniforms etc always works and draws in the crowds.
Just my thoughts ladies and gents. |

| Hi All
Was just wondering if people are still interested in getting German and we all need to decide on a unit to portray so I can write up kit lists and scenarios that we can do.
Thanks Mitch | |
